Our $800 bathroom refresh

We recently completed a fun redo of a long overdue space, our main bathroom. Spoiler: We covered our overwhelming wall tile with beadboard! And we love it! Our home has two bathrooms and this is the main one we use. We don’t have a master bath (yet!) so Luke and I shower in here as well. Its remained the same since we moved in 5 years ago and needed some help, and storage!

Before. The bathroom was redone not that long before we moved in so while it was perfectly functional it wasn’t our style at all. I wanted a way to update the style and add more storage without demoing the bathroom. It seemed a waste to rip it all out since it was functional, except that teeny vanity was NOT cutting it for a family of 5!

So I came up with an idea to cover the wall tile with beadboard. That would break up all the tile and downplay the greenish hue the bathroom always seemed to give off. We screwed and used liquid nails to attach the beadboard. We also found we had to brace the beadboard overnight while the liquid nails adhered. Although I feel like if we would have used more screws it might have adhered easier. Remember you need a tile bit for your drill!

I found an antique dresser we used as a new vanity and reused the existing sink. The bathroom now feels like a completely different space and I actually like the tile now! I’m thankful we found a non-wasteful way to make the bathroom work for us.

This project took us about a week start to finish, we planned it over a holiday so Luke was home and busted it while the girls were in bed and nap time.

Here’s a general budget breakdown…

$550 - wide pre-preprimed beadboard (the wide plank beadboard is the expensive beadboard. It was $35 a panel while the traditional thin beadboard is only $20 for a 4’x8’ sheet. We picked the wider trim one because it matches the existing paneling in our house) trim, paint, building supplies like caulk and glue.

$150 - vanity

$50- new black faucet and toilet paper holder from Amazon

$10- wooden hooks

We are so happy with how this space turned out! It feels like a COMPLETELY different bathroom!
